The Government of Ontario Province has initiated this provincial program which is known as Child Benefit Ontario (OCB). This Child Tax Benefit program aims to financially help low income families in raising their dependent child. To qualify OCB, a child should be under 18. People living in the province of Ontario are only eligible in this program.
It is a monthly payment program, similar to the CCB program (Child Credit Benefit), which means eligible families receive the payment monthly. On Behalf of the Ontario Government, CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) governs OCB. This program is supporting around 500,000 families residing in Ontario Province. Around 1 million children benefited by this program.

Ontario Child Tax Benefit Amount for 2024
The amount of OCB is decided by the number of eligible children in a family. The income of the family also plays a vital role in deciding the amount of the OCB program. The amount is distributed monthly to the eligible families. Yearly, the families can earn up to $1,607 per child. However, the eligible families can earn up to $133.91 per child, monthly.
Generally, the eligible families receive the OCB amount with the CCB amount. The families receive both the payable amounts as a single monthly payment. CRA is entirely responsible for administering this provincial program which is financed by the Government of Ontario. The Adjusted net income of a family must be less than $24,542 to receive the full amount. If the AFNI exceeds $24,542, then the families would be still eligible for a partial amount.
Eligibility Criteria
Before applying for OCB, please note these following points that are considered as the eligibility criteria for OCB :
- Resident of Ontario.
- The eligible child must be financially dependent on you.
- Children under 18 are eligible.
- Less income than the qualified income criteria.
- Eligible children must be registered for CCB.
- Income tax return must be filed for the previous year.
How to get registered in the Ontario Child Benefit Program ?
To apply for the Ontario Child Benefit, eligible families or individuals should also apply for the Canada Child Benefit as applying for CCB will automatically consider their application for OCB. Individuals can submit the application through CRA My account or by mail. Therefore, filers should properly read the eligibility criteria before filing the application, so that they can receive the benefit of both the programs.
Note: The amount is completely tax-free and eligible families can take advantage of both the programs, i.e, CCB and OCB.
