The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers the Employment Insurance (EI) benefit program. Eligibility Criteria 

1. An individual who is unemployed and currently looking for a job.
2. An individual who has got terminated from their job but they were not at fault.  
3. Before applying for the claim, you must have worked for at least 400 hours in the last 52 weeks. 

Maximum EI Payment Amount

The Employment Insurance Amount is calculated at the basic rate of 55%. The EI payment amount is calculated by the number of hours you have worked in the past 52 weeks. Your annual income also plays a vital role in calculating the Employment Insurance Payment Amount. After 28 days of successfully submitting your application, your initial payment gets issued. 

EI payments are received every 2 weeks after the first payment. There are two ways of receiving the EI payment:- 

1. Direct Deposit- The EI payment amount gets directly deposited into your bank account. It is the most advisable way of receiving the EI payment amount without any delay. You need to keep your bank details updated with the CRA. 

2. A cheque via email-  If you do not want to opt for direct deposit, then you will receive the EI payment through cheque on your mail. You need to keep your email information updated in the CRA account.

There are few factors that delays in the EI payment:-

1. Delay in the process of verification.
2. You have not submitted the necessary documents. 
3. Some issues with the banking procedures.
4. Inaccurate mailing and bank details.

The  EI payments are received once every two weeks. Your registration date is tied with EI and it manages the payment dates.

1. You can sign up for the EI plan by directly going to the official website of CRA. 
2. Take out the application and fill in all the essential details, including your bank details and personal information. 
3. Include the necessary documents, for example, your employment record for the last 52 weeks. 
4. Verify all the information.
5. Submit the form.  
6. Once CRA receives your application, they will verify your application and after the successful procedure of verification, you will receive your initial payment after 28 days.
