Eligibility Criteria 

The IRS has posted 7 guidelines for meeting the eligibility criteria for Child Tax Credit 2024.

  1. Citizenship: A child must be a citizen of the United States of America, a national of the USA, or a resident alien of the USA. 
  1. Residency: A child must be living with you for more than half a tax year. 
  1. Financial Support: The filer should be providing the child with more than half of the financial support. 
  1. Dependency Status: During the tax return, the child must be claimed as a dependent.
  1. Income Limit: There is a certain income limit for the filers to claim CTC.

Income Limits

  1. $200,000 for a widower, head of household, and a single filer.
  2. $400,000 for a married couple filing jointly.
  3. $200,000 for a married couple filing separately.

How to claim Child Tax Credit?

To claim CTC in 2024, it is mandatory to file your tax return in 2025. You can enter your child on your income tax return (Form 1040). You also need to include (Schedule-8812).
